The modern nation of Pakistan was formed after a long struggle for independence led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

    Pakistan is a federal parliamentary republic and is governed by the Constitution of Pakistan. The executive branch of the government is headed by the Prime Minister, who is elected by the Parliament. The Parliament consists of two houses, the National Assembly and the Senate. The judicial branch is headed by the Supreme Court.

    Pakistan has a mixed economy and is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. The major industries include textiles, chemicals, food processing, pharmaceuticals, steel and automobile manufacturing. Agriculture is the mainstay of the economy, with cotton, rice and wheat being the major crops.

    Pakistan is a multi-cultural country with a rich cultural heritage. The country is home to a variety of ethnic groups, including Punjabis, Pashtuns, Sindhis and Balochis. The culture is influenced by Islamic values and traditions. Music, dance, art and literature are some of the important elements of Pakistani culture.

    Pakistan has a fairly good education system. The government provides free primary and secondary education to all citizens. Higher education is provided by universities and other institutions of higher learning. Literacy rate in Pakistan is around 58%, which is lower than the world average.
